Willie Phelan, a great Ballygunner hurler in the early years of the club transferred to Ballyboden St Endas after relocating to Dublin and gave great service to them.
After Willie's death in 1990, Ballygunner Hurling Club put forward the Willie Phelan Cup to be played between the two clubs.
Since 2013 thanks to Willie's son Liam, the under 13 teams of both clubs play for the trophy annually.
Well done to our team who won the trophy in impressive style and thanks to Catherine Power and her team for providing excellent hospitality for our guests. Special thanks also to Liam Phelan who ensured that the Ballyboden boys and their families had a memorable visit to Waterford.
